The Devon Children and Families Partnership held their annual conference on 7th December 2017 which launched the Devon Neglect Strategy and the tools which will be used to support practitioners working with families where neglect is a significant issue.  Neglect can be a complex problem and cases often drift as professionals wait for signs of improvement, but the impact on children can be significant and long lasting.

The conference considered how early and effective identification and intervention can make a difference.  The objectives of the conference were;-

  • Think differently about neglect
  • Recognise the impact of adverse childhood experiences
  • Consider more creative solutions for tackling neglect in families
  • Create a sense of urgency when dealing with neglect
  • Work collaboratively with adult facing services

The Keynote Speakers included Professor Sue White professor of social work at Sheffield University, Dr Warren Larkin a leading authority on adverse childhood experiences and Dr Debbie Stalker, Paediatrician and designated doctor for safeguarding.
