This one day multi-agency course is designed for frontline practitioners working directly with parents, families, children or young people and will examine safe practice and specific risk factors associated with DVA. The course will equip practitioners with the confidence, knowledge and skills to use an evidence based tool thereby enabling them to work with the appropriate multi-agency risk management system (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)/Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) to address and manage risk.
The aims of the course are to raise awareness of the impact of abusive relationships within families, considering specifically how children may be affected. The course also aims to increase understanding of the specific risk associated with DVA, including how best to manage them in the context of multi-agency working, raising standards of practice both individually and collectively.
Who should attend:
This course is suitable for multi-agency Front Line Practitioners who work with parents, families, children and young people.
NB Part 1 - Understanding Domestic Abuse (Group 3 Refresher/Special Interest) must be completed before attending this course.
By the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of specific risk factors associated with DVA and appreciate the ways victims and their children may have to behave to manage their safety
- Use an evidence based tool to establish levels of risk in DVA situations and work with appropriate multi-agency systems
- Consider the ongoing role of supporting families experiencing DVA including practices which will safeguard and protect them
You must have the agreement of your Manager or Funding Agency to attend this course, unless you wish to attend in a self-funding capacity. Please note that if payment is not received for delegates from non-partner agencies 4 weeks before the course is due to run your place may be cancelled.
